i am a person-centred counsellor working in and outdoors in Northumberland. I am keen to explrore the idea of congruence as something intra and inter-personal but also as something very much related to or part of the natural environment. Rogers called this the formative tendency, My colleague Peter Chatalos wrote a great paper on this in the WAPCEP international journal.
Qualifications/Services Offered (Optional)
I am a qualified and accredited counsellor / psychotherapist. I have trained with Hayley Marshall and the Wilderness foundation 'taking therapy outdoors' and I spent a fantastic weekend with Rab Erskine whp has been practicing Pre-Therapy (Prouty) outdoors for over 20 years. My outdoor work includes 'walk and talk' and woodland based counselling which can include some bushcraft like firelighting, cooking on the fire, putting up temporary shelters etc. Often this includes a short walk and some time sitting by the fire. My intention is to offer the 'necessary and sufficient conditions' for therapeutic change in what I regard as the naturally facilitative 'conditions' of the outdoors. I work with Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services' 'mena nd boys' worker Ricjhard Bliss - together we offer a number of outdoor workshops for men and boys (see my website for upcoming events) i am training to be a Forest School leader - to enhance my skills and knowledge. I see much shared ground in terms of Forest School's child centred learning approach with the person-centred approach.

I am running an outdoor, residential, person-centred weekend in Northumberland 16 - 18 September 2016. The aim of this is to explore 'congruence in and with nature' in an outdoor setting - including a walk, some solo time in nature and some reflection around the fire. There is comfortable indoor accomodation at Minsteracrss retreat centre near Consett, Northumberland.
